BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

We repair and replace BFT keypads and intercom systems throughout Fort Worth, with most jobs running $285 to $640 installed, parts included. We stock BFT-compatible keypads, intercom modules, and wiring harnesses on the truck, so we can usually complete the job the same day we diagnose it. Most owners call us after the keypad stops responding entirely, or when the intercom audio turns to static and visitors can’t get through at all.

Here’s the pattern we see in Fort Worth every week: the keypad works fine for years, then one summer afternoon it starts rejecting a code that worked that morning. Or the intercom speaker crackles, fades, and dies. Sometimes it’s the keypad membrane wearing out from sun exposure. Sometimes it’s a failing power supply feeding the whole station. We name what we found, name what it costs, and name what we left behind – on every single job.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

BFT has made several keypad and intercom lines over the years, and the compatibility range matters more than most homeowners realize. The most common units we service in Fort Worth are the BFT MITTO keypads, the BFT RADIUS series, and the DEIMOS BT / DEIMOS ULTRA intercom panels. We also see the older BFT QSC and PHEBE keypads on gates installed ten to fifteen years ago.

The identification step is simple but important: look for the model designation printed on the back of the keypad housing or on the circuit board inside the intercom panel. If the label is faded or missing, we match the part by measuring the mounting footprint and checking the wiring configuration. BFT uses proprietary communication protocols between the keypad and the control board, so a generic keypad from another brand won’t talk to a BFT panel. That’s the compatibility gotcha that catches a lot of DIY buyers off guard.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for BFT keypads specifically, we use genuine BFT parts or direct-compatible equivalents from established manufacturers. Cheap import copies fail fast in Texas heat, and we won’t install a part we wouldn’t put on our own gate. If a quality aftermarket option exists and saves you money, we’ll tell you. If OEM is the only reliable route, we’ll tell you that too.

Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
  • Keypad accepts one code but not another. This usually points to a failing membrane switch on the keypad face, not a programming issue. The button contacts wear unevenly, so some digits register while others don’t.
  • Intercom audio works one direction only. A visitor can hear you but you can’t hear them, or vice versa. The most common cause is a failed speaker or microphone element inside the intercom station, which heat and humidity accelerate here in Fort Worth.
  • Keypad lights flash but the gate won’t move. The keypad is getting power but the output relay or the wiring to the control board has failed. This is a job for a meter, not a guess.
  • You hear a constant hum or buzz from the intercom. This typically means a failing capacitor in the power supply section of the intercom board. Left alone, it takes the rest of the board with it.
  • The gate opens on its own once or twice a week. A failing keypad can send phantom open signals. We verify this by isolating the keypad circuit and monitoring the board, but it’s a real failure mode, not a ghost.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s the honest price picture for BFT keypad and intercom work in Fort Worth:

Service Typical Installed Cost
BFT keypad replacement, standard model $285 to $410
BFT keypad replacement, multi-entrance or coded access $390 to $520
BFT intercom station replacement (DTMF) $440 to $640

Every quote includes the part, the labor, the programming of your codes and intercom settings, and a written record of what was installed. The price is handed to you before any work starts. No ‘we’ll see how it goes.’ The number is the number.

Warranty on parts is covered by the manufacturer; our labor carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the repair isn’t right within a full year, we make it right. No argument, no fee.

There’s a safe middle ground here. You can check the power source at the gate operator, confirm the keypad has a solid wiring connection, and verify that the breaker hasn’t tripped. Those are reasonable homeowner checks and they cost nothing.

What we don’t recommend is opening a BFT intercom housing and probing the board while the system is live. BFT stations carry low-voltage control wiring, but the gate operator itself runs on 120V or higher, and the two circuits sit close together. One wrong probe placement can fry a control board that was perfectly fine, or give you a shock. Adrian Vance has pulled enough badly-wired gate panels apart to know the difference between a five-minute fix and a three-hour recovery.

If you’ve checked the basics and the keypad still won’t respond, call us at (817) 476-9945. We’ll tell you what we think it is, what it’ll cost, and when we can be there.
