Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

• Keypad accepts one code but not another. This usually points to a failing membrane switch on the keypad face, not a programming issue. The button contacts wear unevenly, so some digits register while others don’t.
• Intercom audio works one direction only. A visitor can hear you but you can’t hear them, or vice versa. The most common cause is a failed speaker or microphone element inside the intercom station, which heat and humidity accelerate here in Fort Worth.
• Keypad lights flash but the gate won’t move. The keypad is getting power but the output relay or the wiring to the control board has failed. This is a job for a meter, not a guess.
• You hear a constant hum or buzz from the intercom. This typically means a failing capacitor in the power supply section of the intercom board. Left alone, it takes the rest of the board with it.

DIY or Call Us?

What we don’t recommend is opening a BFT intercom housing and probing the board while the system is live. BFT stations carry low-voltage control wiring, but the gate operator itself runs on 120V or higher, and the two circuits sit close together. One wrong probe placement can fry a control board that was perfectly fine, or give you a shock.
