Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Elite-compatible keypads and intercom modules across Fort Worth, with most repairs running between $185 and $420 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad face, the intercom board, or both. Same-day service is available on most Elite keypad failures, since our trucks carry the common Elite SL-series and PR-series parts. The usual discovery goes like this: the keypad lights up but won’t accept the code, or the intercom works one direction, or the whole thing went dark after the last Texas thunderstorm rolled through.

Which Elite Models This Applies To

Elite’s keypad and intercom line splits into two main families we see in Fort Worth: the SL-series (slide gate keypads with the metal face) and the PR-series (the plastic pedestal-mount units often paired with Elite’s residential swing operators). The compatibility gotcha that trips up most owners: an SL-2000 keypad will not talk to a PR-1 control board without a bridge module, even though both say “Elite” on the faceplate. We match the part number off the inside of the keypad housing, not the front label, because the front labels get sun-bleached and re-labeled by previous techs. For Elite specifically, we recommend OEM boards over aftermarket equivalents on anything that handles the intercom audio path – the aftermarket boards we’ve tested tend to introduce a faint 60-cycle hum that OEM boards don’t. For keypad membranes and weather boots, a quality aftermarket part is usually fine and saves $40 to $70. Elite discontinued several PR-1 intercom boards in 2021, and we still carry new-old-stock for those because we bought them out when they left the catalog.

Signs Your Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

Signs Your Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
  • Keypad beeps but won’t trigger the gate. This usually means the keypad is reading the code correctly but the relay on the control board has failed. The board is the problem, not the keypad. We test this before we replace anything, because replacing the keypad alone won’t fix a dead relay.
  • Intercom audio only works one direction. On Elite units, this is almost always a failed electrolytic capacitor on the intercom daughterboard. The capacitor dries out in Texas heat, and the audio amplifier loses its bias. The fix is a board-level repair or a daughterboard swap, not a new intercom station.
  • Keypad works after rain but not after it dries out. That’s a cracked weather seal letting moisture in, and the keypad membrane is corroding. The intermittent behavior is the corrosion making contact only when the traces are damp. We replace the membrane and reseal the housing.
  • Display shows garbage characters or half-lit segments. This is the LCD driver chip failing, and it’s common on Elite units that sit in direct afternoon sun on west-facing Fort Worth driveways. The heat breaks down the solder joints under the chip, and the fix is a reflow or a new display module.
  • Keypad works but the intercom buzzer rings constantly or not at all. The buzzer circuit on the Elite PR-series is a known weak point. The transistor that drives it overheats and fails short, which is why the buzzer either screams or stays silent. We stock the replacement transistors and replace them in about twenty minutes.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Worth, an Elite keypad-only replacement runs between $185 and $260 installed, depending on the model and whether we’re reusing the existing pedestal or mounting a new one. A full keypad-plus-intercom board replacement runs between $320 and $420 installed. The parts are roughly 60% of the job, and our labor is the rest. Every quote is written and handed to you before we touch a screwdriver, and the price you see is the price you pay – no surprise invoice at the end. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the written price precedes the work, every time. The installed part carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within a year, we make it right at no additional charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Elite keypad and intercom work is low-voltage, so the electrical danger is minimal compared to gate motor wiring. But it’s still a board with exposed solder points and a control cable that runs back to your gate operator. The mistake we see most often from DIY attempts: a homeowner crosses the wrong two wires, sends 24V into the keypad’s 12V input, and turns a $35 keypad membrane replacement into a $200 board replacement. You can safely check the breaker for the gate operator and visually inspect the keypad for cracked housings or corroded terminals. After that, call us at (817) 476-9945 and we’ll diagnose it properly. The diagnostic is part of the service, and you’ll get the written price before we proceed.
